For this endpoint, the read across between PWH/ammonium and PWH/sodium salt is valid.

The read across justification is attached on section 13 of the dossier.

Test item Sodium C14-17 chloro-alkyl sulfonate was tested for flammability by EU method A.10. Two preliminary tests were performed and the same sample behaviour was observed. The test item, a white wax, did not ignite, but the sample melted when the Bunsen burner flame came close. Since test item did not propagate combustion, no further testing was required. From the physico chemical point of view the tested substance is very similar to the registering substance Paraffin waxes and Hydrocarbon waxes, chloro, sulfochlorinated, saponified, therefore the same conclusions can be applied

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the criteria set out in the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008) powdered, granular or pasty substances or mixtures (except powders of metals or metal alloys — see shall be classified as readily combustible solids when the time of burning of one or more of the test runs,

performed in accordance with the test method described in Part III, sub-section 33.2.1, of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, is less than 45 seconds or the rate of burning is more than 2,2 mm/s.

Since in the screening test no spreading of burning has been observed at all the substance can be considered as Non Flammable
