Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

For this endpoint, the read across between PWH/ammonium and PWH/sodium salt is valid, because this environmental toxicological property is defined by the main component. The read across justification that takes into account the ammonium ion properties is attached on section 13 of the dossier.

Three tests have been performed following OECD 202 on the registering substance (SSP3, 4 and 5). The same test has been performed on the similar substance Paraffin waxes and Hydrocarbon waxes C14-17, chloro, sulfochlorinated, low sulphonated, saponified (SSP1), here reported as supporting study, demonstrating the differences in composition can trigger also a difference in aquatic toxicity well evident for this sensitive species.

Sample SSP4 has the same molecular chain distribution than sample SSP1, but is very different in hydrophilicity, content of salifiable portion (SO3), that seems the most important factor that can have an influence on the aquatic toxicity. The greater bioavailability for sample SSP4 supports even stronger the influence of the SO3% content on aquatic toxicity:

  IC0 IC50 IC100 C chains SO3
SSP1 0,01 0,22 10,00 14-17 2,5-3,5
SSP4 1,90 3,80 20,70 14-17 10,50
SSP3 4,30 44,90 100,00 18-30 5,50
SSP5 50,00 100,00 100,00 20-30 3,00
