Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Although there are no data available concerning the toxicity to microorganisms, the substance is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to microorganisms. Studies are available in order to determine the toxicity to microorganisms of four members of the category of derivatives of 4,4’-bis(1,3,5-triazinyl-2-yl)amino)stilbene-2,2’-disulfonic acid, each with one anilino and one alkyl amino moiety. All those studies demonstrate that the substances belonging to the category do not inhibit the activity of activated sludge (E(I)C > 100 mg/L).

EC 240-521-2: In a respiration rate study with domestic sewage sludge, the IC50 (3h) was determined to be > 100 mg/L (Sandoz 1988). Therefore, the test substance is considered not to be harmful to microorganisms.

EC 432-690-8: In a respiration rate study (3 h) of the test substance, no toxic effects occurred at the test concentration of nominally 1000 mg/L (Clariant 1999). Therefore the test substance is considered not to be harmful to microorganisms.

EC 476-900-6: In a respiration rate study (3 h) of the test substance, no toxic effects occurred at the test concentration of nominally 1000 mg/L (Clariant 2005). Therefore the test substance is considered not to be harmful to microorganisms.

EC 416-640-2: In a respiration rate study (3 h) of the test substance, no toxic effects occurred at the test concentration of nominally 1000 mg/L (Sandoz 1995). Therefore the test substance is considered not to be harmful to microorganisms.
