Residual moisture

- The test item contained a residual moisture of <0.1 wt.-%, which was determined by drying at 50 °C under vacuum.

- The reference item potassium bromate contained a residual moisture of <0.1 wt.-%, which was determined by drying at 65 °C.

The tests with the mixtures potassium bromate and cellulose in the ratios of 2:3 and 3:2 were not performed, because the burning time of the mixtures of the test item with cellulose was higher than the burning time of the reference mixture 3:7.

A study was performed according to UN Test Methods O.1 in order to determine the oxidising properties of the solid test item. The test item was sieved and dried at 50 °C under vacuum until constant weight. The combustible substance - cellulose, was dried at 105 °C until constant weight. As a reference substance potassium bromate was used. The test item was mixed with cellulose in 4:1 and 1:1 ratios. The mixtures were formed into a truncated conical pile, with a base diameter of 70 mm, covering the looped ignition wire resting on the reaction plate. Power was applied to the ignition wire and was maintained for the duration of the test or for 3 min if the mixture did not ignite and burn during this time. The burning time was recorded from when the power was switched on until the main reaction ended. The test item-cellulose mixture did not ignite in both 4:1 and 1:1 ratios within 3 min. Therefore, the test item was not considered to be classified as oxidising solid according to Division 5.1 of UN Transport Regulation, GHS and Regulation (EU) No. 1272/2008, Annex1: 2.14.

Based on the chemical structure and taking into account the provisions laid down in Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, as amended for the tenth time in Regulation (EC) No. 2017/776, the substance is not considered to be classified for oxidising properties.
