Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study

June 13 - 14, 2017
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Remarks:
Pre-Test (visual inspection)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Landesamt für Umwelt, Wasserwirtschaft und Gewerbeaufsicht, Rheinland-Pfalz
Type of method:
method to determine freezing temperature
Melting / freezing pt.:
< -20 °C
Atm. press.:
ca. 1 013 hPa

Pre-Test

After evaluation the following values were recorded:

Pre-Test

Room Temperature 3.4 °C:

Yellow and viscous liquid. No visual changes, test item not flow able anymore, like wax.

Room Temperature -21.2 °C:

No visual changes, test item very viscous, light unclear but could be pressed. Like wax.

Room Temperature -80 °C:

No visual changes, test item was frozen and solid.

In a pre-test, the test item dermofeel® P-30 was visiually unchanged, the test item was very viscous and light unclear (like wax) but could be pressed at – 20°C. According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2008 annex VII, column 2 of section 7.2, the determination of the melting- / freezing point does not need to be conducted below a lower limit of - 20 °C.

Therefore, no additional test was conducted and the melting point is stated as: < - 20 °C (< 253.15 K).

Description of key information

< -20 °C at ca. 1013 hPa (OECD 102)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The melting point of the test substance was determined according to OECD Method 102 (determination of freezing temperature).
