Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Testing Toxicity to birds has been judged to be not necessary in accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex X.

There are no results from long-term bird or mammal studies reporting on dietary or oral exposure available. Hence a determination of the PNEC oral is not possible. However, considering that direct or indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely and that hydrolysis is the dominating degradation process in the aquatic environment (no bioaccumulation) secondary poisoning is not determined to be a relevant exposure route for 3-isocyanatomethyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexyl isocyanate.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The risk for secondary poisoning is negligible because the substance is predisposed to rapid hydrolysis. The degradation products are either characterized by a low potential for bioaccumulation; isophorone diamine has a log Kow of 0.99; or by a low potential to cross biological membranes, polyurea molecules are unlikely to cross biological membranes due to its relatively large molecular size. The absence of systemic bioavailability is also demonstrated in (eco-) toxicity studies with diisocyanates.
