Description of key information

The estimated bioconcentration factor (BCF) for 3a,4,5,6,7,7a-hexahydro-4,7-methanoinden-6-yl acetate, 35 , does not exceed the EPA bioconcentration criteria.The PBT Profiler estimates that 3a,4,5,6,7,7a-hexahydro-4,7-methanoinden-6-yl acetate is not expected to bioaccumulate in the food chain because it does not exceed the BCF criteria.

In general it is considered that bioaccumulation is the process by which the chemical concentration in an aquatic organism achieves a level that exceeds that in the water, as a result of chemical uptake through all possible routes of exposure. The relationship between bioaccumulation and bio-concentration is that, chemicals that have the potential to bioconcentrate also have the potential to bioaccumulate. So, based on this information the estimated BCF factor was observed to be 35. Now EPA has established a series of proposed thresholds for bioaccumulative chemicals. If this cutoff threshold is used as a comparison then the substance 3a,4,5,6,7,7a-hexahydro-4,7-methanoinden-6-yl acetate can be considered to be non bioaccumulative in nature (as the EPA standard indicate that the bioconcentration factor threshold value is 1000). A substance would be considered as non bioaccumulative in nature if the BCF factor is less 1000.
