Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The toxicity to soil macroorganisms except arthropods was evaluated by considering data on two similar substances. Justification for Read Across is given in Section 13 of IUCLID.

A study is available to assess the acute toxicity of the similar substance 3a-A(Na) to terrestrial macroorganisms. The LC50 value in Eisenia foetida according to OECD 207 was greater than 5000 mg/kg dry weight (Solvias AG., 1999). The reliability is low because just the summary is actually available.

Nevertheless the study is supported by the test on the similar substance 3a-MSA, conducted also according to OECD 207 in which LC50 was greater than 3000 mg/kg dry weight and for which also a summary for the same test is available (Solvias AG., 1999). No concern for soil toxicity is then arisen by the presented acute studies.

According to the REACH Regulation, Annex IX, Column 2 (specific rules for adaptation from Column 1), further soil toxicity testing is not proposed by the registrant because the Chemical Safety Assessment, according to Annex I, does not indicate the need to investigate further the effects on soil organisms.

In order to limit the hazardous for soil compartment, the risk assessment for the substances belonging to the category has been performed using the highest experimental Koc value. In this way, the Predicted Environmental Concentrations in soil are maximized (for further details, see the Category Justification Report).
