Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
other justification
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
06 June 2012
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.13 (Pyrophoric Properties of Solids and Liquids)
Version / remarks:
(2008)
GLP compliance:
no
Test procedure:
ignition time on contact with air
Remarks on result:
no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)

The test item did not ignite within 5 minutes when added to diatomaceous earth and exposed to air respectively it did not char or ignite a filter paper within 5 minutes.

Interpretation of results:
other: no pyrophoric properties

Description of key information

flash point: 136 °C (EU Method A.9)
pyrophoric properties: no (EU Method A.13)
flammable on contact with water: not expected based on experience

during handling and use and based on assessment of the chemical structure

not self-heating based on the physical state (liquid)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Based on flash point and boiling point, the substance is a non-flammable liquid. In the pyrophoricity test, spontaneous ignition in contact with air did not occur. Based on experience during handling and use (e.g. water solubility test) in combination with the assessment of the chemical structure of the substance, flammability on contact with water is not to be expected. The substance is not self-heating, due to the liquid physical state (liquid are not self-heating, unless they are adsorbed on a large surface).

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification: Flash-point > 60°C, no pyrophoric properties, not flammable on contact with water, not self-heating due to the physical state, which is liquid. The substance is considered to be a non-flammable liquid.
