Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

- EC50 (28d): >1000 mg/kg soil dw, test mat. GTL base oil (CAS 848301-69-9, EC 482-220-0) (nominal) based on: nitrate formation rate (OECD 216; GLP)

- NOEC (28d): ≥1000 mg/kg soil dw, test mat. GTL base oil (CAS 848301-69-9, EC 482-220-0) (nominal) based on: nitrate formation rate (OECD 216; GLP)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Short-term EC50 for soil microorganisms:
1 000 mg/kg soil dw
Long-term EC10 or NOEC for soil microorganisms:
1 000 mg/kg soil dw

Additional information

No toxicity studies to soil microorganisms are available for the registration substance itself.

A nitrogen transformation test is available for the closely related substance GTL Base Oil covering the carbon range from C18 to C50 (Clarke, 2010b). The test was conducted in accordance with OECD 216 and GLP.

Soil microorganisms were exposed to GTL Base Oil at concentrations of 1000 mg/kg soil dw for 28 days at a temperature of 21°C, in the dark, on natural soil with an organic carbon content of 0.97 ± 0.07% with addition of Lucerne-green-grass meal as a respiratory substrate. The inhibitory effect of the test substance on nitrogen transformation was determined by measurement of nitrate concentrations in soil samples taken on Days 7, 14, 21 and 28, in comparison to control samples.

The effect of the test substance on nitrogen transformation gave an EC50 greater than 1000 mg/kg soil dw.

It is concluded that the results are also applicable for the registration substance containing higher molecular weight constituents (C25-C150, about 30-55 % >C50) since hydrocarbons >C50 are expected to be less bioavailable (due to the low water solubility and enhanced size).
