Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The acute toxicity towards Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was investigated according to OECD TG 201 and GLP under closed static conditions.  Algae were exposed for 72 hours to nominal measured concentrations of 80.0, 25.0, 7.86, 0.483, 0.155, 0.0540 and 0.0144 mg test item/L, and a control.  This study encompassed 6 treatment groups (8 dose rates of the test item and a control) with three replicates per test concentration and six replicates for the control. At test start 50 mL of the test media were inoculated with nominal 5000 algal cells per mL test medium and defined volumes of the algal suspensions were sampled after 24, 48 and 72 hours for determination of cell densities by spectrophotometric measurement. Due to poor water solubility water accommodated fractions (WAFs) were prepared at the start of the experiment. All reported results refer to adjusted nominal concentrations (loading  rate) since a supersaturated stock solution via WAFs were prepared. The 72h-ErL50, 72h-ErL10 and 72h-NOELR of the substance towards Pseudokircheriella subcapitata were 31.6, 19.7 and 0.483 mg/L respectively based on nominal concentrations and verified by analytic measures of the constituent 2,2-dimethoxyethyl)benzene, which was used as a marker.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
31.6 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
19.7 mg/L
