The DSC measurements were performed twice: the first one in the temperature range from 0 - 350 °C, which was cancelled at approx. 240 °C. The second run was performed in the range from 0 - 200 °C. To determine a possible boiling point more precisely a crucible lid with a hole of 50 µm diameter was used in the measurements. The small hole causes the generation of a defined atmosphere at constant pressure inside the crucible and allows measurements at near equilibrium conditions, thus preventing evaporation of the test material before reaching the boiling point.

Upon further heating (above melting point) the DSC-curve showed no more endothermic peaks but the typical fluctuating course of decomposition starting at approx. 200 °C. Therefore the first run was cancelled at approx. 240 °C. The second run was stopped after the endothermic peak at approx. 200 °C.

Conclusions:
In the present study conducted according to OECD TG 103 (1995), GLP, no boiling point for Tetrahydrofolic acid was detected. The substance is assumed to decompose after melting at 181°C.
