Description of key information

The flashpoint of the test item is -18.5 °C (BASF SE, SE.17 -0070, 2017).

Additional information

The flashpoint of the test item was investigated under GLP-conditions according to EU-Method A.9 (BASF SE, 17 -0070, 2017). The test substance was placed in a test vessel, which was progressively heated until the vapour reached a sufficiently high concentration in air to produce a flammable mixture which could be ignited. An initial test and two test runs were conducted. In result, the mean flash point of the test substance is -18.5 °C.

In another study, the flash point of the test substance was investigated according to DIN 51755 (BASF SE, 11 -1957, 2011). The test substance was placed in a crucible, which was slowly heated until the steam reached a sufficiently high concentration in the air and the mixture could be ignited with a small gas flame.The testing temperature was between -30 and +5 °C. In result, the corrected individual values give a mean flash point of -12 ° C (rounded off to 1 °C).

The flash point of the test item was assessed according to DIN 51755 part 2 (BASF SE, 00 -2222, 2000). The test item was filled into a crucible and evaporated slowly (temperature: -30 - +5 °C) until the vapor had reached a sufficiently high concentration in the air, so that the mixture could be ignited with a small gas flame. In result, the mean flash point of the the test item was -4 °C.

In conclusion, the flash point of -18.5 °C determined in the most recent and reliable study (BASF SE, SE.17 -0070, 2017) is considered as recommended value. All other available values are above -18.5 °C, but likewise < 23 °C.

Based on the results and taking into account the provisions laid down in Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, as amended for the tenth time in Regulation (EC) No. 605/2014, the substance has to be classified as highly flammable liquid (GHS Category 2, H 225), since the flash point is < 23 °C and the boiling point is > 35 °C.
