Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 30-min NOEC value is >1000 mg/L in an activated sludge respiration study.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Two studies on the toxicity to microorganisms are available.

The toxicity of the substance to microorganisms was investigated in an activated sludge respiration inhibition study according to ISO guideline No 8192 (BASF, 1988). In this study activated sludge from a predominantly domestic sewage was exposed to nominal test substance concentrations of 0 (control) and 1006 mg/L for 30 minutes. The effects on microorganisms was determined by measuring total respiration rates and comparing these to an unexposed control. No effect on respiration was recorded. The 30 -min NOEC value is determined at ≥1000 mg/L.

The toxicity of the substance to microorganisms was investigated in a bacterial growth inhibition study according to DIN 38412, part 27 (BASF, 1990).

In this study cultures of bacteria (Pseudomonas putida) were exposed to nominal test substance concentrations of 0 (control) - 10000 mg/L for 17 hours. Test concentrations were not analytically verified. Bacterial growth (inhibition) was determined by measuring oxygen consumption throughout the test. No significant effect on respiration was observed up to the highest tested concentratio. The 17 -h EC50 and 17 -h EC10 values were determined to be >10000 mg/L.
