Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Principle of test:
The objective of the study was to determine the water solubility of the test substance "Phosphorodifluoric acid, lithium salt" for regulatory purposes. For the complete test substance no single analytical method is available. The water solubility was therefore estimated by analysis of the elements lithium and phosphorus.
The solubility of a chemical in water is defined as the saturation mass concentration of the chemical in water and is a function of the temperature.

- Short description of test conditions, parameters analysed / observed:
The principle of the flask method is to disperse about the amount of five times the expected saturation concentration of the test substance in water at least at 10°C and 20°C. When saturation is achieved, the mass concentration of the elements lithium and phosphorous in the aqueous solution, which must not contain any undissolved particles, is determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES).

Water solubility:
917 g/L
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Incubation duration:
6 d
Temp.:
10 °C
pH:
0.5 - 1.3
Details on results:
Results for the test are recorded in the table above conducted at 10°C. It was not possible to determine the water solubility at 20°C or 30°C as the substance hydrolysed to form hydrogen fluoride which reacted with the glassware and lithium fluoride is precipitated causing loss of the lithium from the solution.
Conclusions:
The water solubility of the test substance was determined to be ca. 917 g/L at 10°C using the flask method.

Description of key information
