EQUIPMENT
- Apparatus: High-performance liquid chromatograph (No. LC-147)
(Pump: LC-20AD, UV-VIS detector: SPD-20A, Column oven: CTO-20AC, Auto injector: SIL-20AHT, Degasser: DGU-20A3)
- Type, material and dimension of analytical (guard) column: Inertsil CN-3 (150 mm x 2.1 mm I.D., particle size 5 μm, GL Sciences).
- Column temperature: 25 °C

MOBILE PHASES
- Eluent: Methanol/buffer solution (pH 7.0, 60/40 v/v). 10 mmol/L potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution was adjusted to pH 7.0 with 1 mol/L sodium hydroxide solution.
- Flow rate: 0.2 mL/min
- Measurement wavelength: Test material: 277 nm, reference material (acetanilide): 210 nm
- Injection volume: 1 μL

PREPARATION OF REFERENCE MATERIAL SOLUTION
- Acetanilide (4.02 mg) was weighed with an electronic analytical balance and then filled up to 10 mL with the eluent for HPLC analysis to prepare a reference material solution.

PREPARATION OF TEST MATERIAL SOLUTION
- The test material (10.41 mg) was weighed with an electronic analytical balance and then filled up to 10 mL with the eluent for HPLC analysis to prepare a test material solution. The eluent for HPLC analysis was used as a solvent blank.

DETERMINATION OF RETENTION TIMES
- Reference material: Acetanilide solution was injected twice to the test equipment and the retention time was measured.
- Test material: The test material solution was injected twice to the test equipment and the retention time was measured. The solvent blank was injected once into the test equipment. It was confirmed that no peak existed at the peak position of the test material by the analysis of the solvent blank.
- Injection order: Reference item solution (first time), test material solution (first time), test material solution (second time), solvent blank, reference item solution (second time).

DETERMINATION OF ADSORPTION COEFFICIENT
- The retention time of the test material was compared with that of the reference material (acetanilide). Since the retention time of the test material was shorter than that of acetanilide (log Koc = 1.25), the log Koc of the test material was regarded as < 1.25.

Value:
< 1.25 dimensionless
pH:

Details on results (HPLC method):
The retention time of the test material was compared with that of the reference material (acetanilide). Since the retention time of the test material (1.36 min) was shorter than that of acetanilide (2.75 min, log Koc = 1.25), the log Koc of the test material was regarded as less than 1.25. The adsorption coefficient was represented as a logarithm and rounded off to two decimal places. Values were treated in accordance with Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) Z 8401:2019 rule B.

Executive summary:

The adsorption coefficient (Koc) on soil and on sewage sludge using HPLC was estimated in accordance with the standardised guidelines of OECD 121 under GLP conditions.

From the preliminary test it was predicted that the retention time of the test material was shorter than that of the reference material (acetanilide). Therefore, the retention time of the test material (1.36 min) was compared to that of acetanilide (2.75 min) and the log Koc was determined as less than the log Koc of acetanilide (log Koc = 1.25). Under the conditions of the study the log Koc for the test material was determined to be < 1.25 (pH 7.0, 25 °C).

Description of key information

Additional information

The adsorption coefficient (Koc) on soil and on sewage sludge using HPLC was estimated in accordance with the standardised guidelines of OECD 121 under GLP conditions.

The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).
