Description of key information

Ethylenediaminediacetic acidis inherently biodegradable based on the results of a Zahn Wellens test published in literature. Ultimate biodegradability was demonstrated in a prolonged ready test.

Additional information

Ultimate biodegradability was demonstrated for Ethylenediaminediacetic acid in a prolonged ready biodegradability test using river water as inoculum. The results from Pitter and Sykora (2001) show that the substance is inherently biodegradable in a Zahn Wellens test. Ethylenediaminediacetic acid does not adsorb to suspended sediment or soil. Half-life determination in simulation tests is therefore not expected to improve the insight in the fate of ED2A in these compartments.
