Pentyl chlorformate is an acyl chloride; these substances are such reactive compounds, react violently with water, steam, methanol or ethanol to form hydrogen chloride and acetic acid.
Problems can result if one inhales acyl chloride vapors.
The substance is corrosive to the eyes and the skin.
