Description of key information
Appearance:
Based on available data from authoritative database, the chemical 2, 3, 5-Trimethylphenol was observed to be Beige coloured powder in appearance.
Other supporting studyfrom authoritative database also indicates that the chemical 2, 3, 5-Trimethylphenol was observed to be pink coloured powder in appearance.
Melting point:
Based on available data from various reliable handbooks, the melting point of chemical 2, 3, 5-Trimethylphenol was determined to be 94.5 degree C.
Boiling point:
Based on available data from various reliable handbooks, the boiling point of chemical 2, 3, 5-Trimethylphenol was determined to be 233 degree C.
Density:
Based on prediction done using ACD/I-Lab 2.0,the density of chemical 2, 3, 5-Trimethylphenol was estimated to be 0.996±0.06 g/cm3.
Particle Size Distribution:
The particle size distribution of test item 2,3,5 -trimethylphenol (CAS No. 697 -82 -5 ) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determined to be in the range of 150 micron to 75 micron.
Vapour Pressure:
The experimental vapor pressures of 2,3,5-trimethylphenol was determined by ebulliometry at various temperatures.
The experimental vapor pressure of 2,3,5-trimethylphenol at 200deg C was 40002 Pa.
Partition Coefficient:
Data from various handbooks and authoritative databases suggest that the estimated logPow of 2,3,5-trimethylphenol was 3.15. This value suggests that 2,3,5 -trimethylphenol is hydrophillic in nature which is also supported by its high solubility in water.
Water Solubility:
The solubility of 2,3,5 -trimethylphenol at various temperatures in water was determined by Shake flask-UV method.
The experimental water solubility of 2,3,5-trimethylphenol at 200 degC was determined to be 40000 mg/l.
Data from various handbooks and authoritative databases indicate that the experimental water solubility of 2,3,5,- trimethylphenol at 25 degC was determined to be 762 mg/l; also the estimated water solubility of 2,3,5-trimethylphenol at 25 degC was 667.6 mg/l
The experimental and estimated values suggests that 2,3,5 -trimethylphenol is highly soluble in water.
Surface tension:
Based on the experimental data from Reaxy database, surface tension for 2,3,5 Trimethylphenol was determined to be 30.83 - 31.02 g/s2.
Flash point:
The flash point of 2,3,5-trimethylphenol (697-82-5) was calculated to be 94.47 degree C. Based on criteria mentioned in CLP regulation the chemical has flash point >than 60 degree C hence the substance was considered to be non-flammable.
Autoflammability:
As 2, 3, 5-Trimethylphenol having solid physical state and melting point was determined to be 94.5 degree C which was less then 160 degree C. Hence, the endpoint was considered as waiver.
Flammability:
2,3,5-trimethylphenol does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that 2,3,5-trimethylphenol is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus 2,3,5-trimethylphenol was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosiveness:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.
Oxidising properties:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidising properties and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.
Viscosity:
The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid
