Description of key information

The following results were reported from the 72 hour aquatic toxicity study on unicelluar green alga: EbC50 (72h) 3.6 mg/L , ErC50 (72h) 8.6 mg/L and the NOEC (72h) for both biomass and growth rate was 0.23 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
3.6 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.23 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity of the test substance to unicellular green alga (Selenastrum capriconutm) was determined over a 72-hour study in accordance with EEC Methods and OECD guideline. The algal cultures were exposed to seven test concentrations of test substance plus one control in triplicate. Algal growth was monitored daily by measuring the absorbance of each culture at 665 nm wavelength.

The EC50 for biomass and growth rate were determined along with No-Observed-Effect-Concentrations.
