Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Data on the acute toxicity of Diisooctadecyl malate (CAS 67763-18-2) to aquatic algae are not available. The assessment was therefore based on studies conducted with the structurally similar substance bis(C12-C13)alkyl-2-hydroxybutandioate (CAS 149144-85-4) as part of a read across approach, which is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Further justification is given within the overall summary chapter 6.1 and within the analogue justification section 13.

The toxicity of bis(C12-C13)alkyl-2-hydroxybutandioate (CAS 149144-85-4) to algae was evaluated in in a limit test was conducted according to OECD 201, under GLP conditions (Biffi, 1993). Selenastrum capricornutum was exposed to the test substance for 72 hours at test substance concentration of 100 mg/L (WAF). An EC50 (72 h) >100 mg/L was determined at test termination.

Based on the available result from one structurally related source substance (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) which is characterized by a similar ecotoxicological profile and comparable structure, it can be concluded that Diisooctadecyl malate is not acutely toxic to algae up to the limit of water solubility.
