Description of key information

Sorption coefficient test were conducted according to the OECD guideline 106 (Preliminary ecological risk assessment of butylparaben and benzylparaben-2. Fate and partitioning in aquatic environments, 2007). Test was conducted by measuring the decrease in the aquatic concentration of benzylparaben in 1 hour for five concentrations from 0- 10000 mg/L. initial concentration was 100 micrograms/Liter and pH was adjusted to 7. Recovery of benzylparaben was found to be more than 90 % and the final concentration of chemical was determined by HPLC system. From test it was found that the sorption coefficient of benzylparaben (94-18-8) was found to be 92±9 (4.2±0.4X103) in Elliot Silt Loam Soil.

Additional information

Various studies were reviewed along with the prediction data to evalaute the effect of the test compound adsorption. these are summarized as follows:

Sorption coefficient test were conducted according to the OECD guideline 106 (Preliminary ecological risk assessment of butylparaben and benzylparaben-2. Also, Sorption coefficient test were conducted according to the OECD guideline 106. From test it was found that the sorption coefficient of benzylparaben (94-18-8) was found to be 1.4±0.9 (1.9±1.2X103) in Akui river sediment.

The sorption coefficient of benzylparaben (94-18-8) was found to be 13±1 (1.5±0.2X103) in Tamiya river sediment. Sorption coefficient test were conducted according to the OECD guideline 106. Test was conducted by measuring the decrease in the aquatic concentration of benzylparaben in 1 hour for five concentrations from 0- 10000 mg/L. initial concentration was 100 micrograms/Liter and pH was adjusted to 7. From Adsorption by EPI (Estimation Programs Interface) Suite the predicted soil adsorption coefficient (Koc) value of Benzyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is estimated to be 3229 L/kg, indicating that it is has a high sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have slightly migration potential to groundwater.
