Description of key information

The chemical safety assessment carried out according to Annex I of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 does not indicate the need to investigate further the long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates.

There are no long-term studies with aquatic invertebrates available for Fatty acids, C18-unsatd, dimers, hydrogenated, diisopropyl esters (CAS 103213-20-3). The chemical safety assessment according to Annex I of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 does not indicate the need to investigate further the long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates. Thus, in accordance to Annex VII, column 2 no further long-term toxicity test to aquatic invertebrates is proposed. Available short-term studies for fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae, all indicate no potential for aquatic toxicity. Moreover, a chronic NOEC value obtained from an algal growth study is clearly above the limit of water solubility. As there was no sign that any species is more sensitive to the others, it is not expected that a long-term test with aquatic invertebrates will generate different results than the existing experimental results with aquatic organisms. Due to its high adsorption potential the substance is expected to be eliminated to a large extent in sewage treatment plants. Thus, based on the above mentioned results, it can be excluded that the target substance will not exhibit chronic toxicity to aquatic invertebrates up to the limit of water solubility.
