Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

readily biodegradable

Additional information

Ready biodegradability of glycine was investigated in a MITI test using a mixture of sewage, soil and water from 10 collection sites as inoculum (Noguchi, 1993). The test was conducted according to OECD guideline 301 C. After a contact time of 14 days, glycine attained 76-82% degradation based on oxygen consumption and 96-100% degradation based on DOC removal. HPLC analysis of the substance confirmed full degradation of glycine. Hence, glycine can be determined as readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria.
