PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

C14 AO is readily biodegradable and hence does not meet the criterion for classification as P or vP. The log Kow is < 2.7 indicating that there is low potential for bioaccumulation and hence the criterion for classification as B or vB are not met. The lowest NOEC from long-term aquatic studies performed on fish, daphnia and algae C12-14 AO and read across to C14 AO is >= 0.067 mg AO/L. Based on available studies performed with C12-14 AO and read across to C14 AO the substance does not meet the criteria for classification as a CMR and there is no other evidence of chronic toxicity that would result in classification as T, R48, Xn, R48 according to Directive 67/548/EEC or STOT RE 1 or 2 according to Regulation EC No 1272/2008.

Likely routes of exposure:

Humans: The most likely route of exposure for workers and consumers is dermal via contact with products containing the substance.

Environment: The most likely route of exposure is to the aquatic compartment via sewage treatment plants. There may also be indirect exposure to the soil compartment via deposition of sewage sludge.
