Additional information

No experimental data evaluating the adsorption potential of glycerol tristearate (CAS No. 555-43-1) are available. Log Koc values of 14.0 and 14.2 were calculated using the KOCWIN program (v2.00) based on the log Kow and molecular conductivity index (MCI) methods, respectively. These models have no universally accepted definition of model domain, but since the substance is outside the log Kow range of the training set, the results should be taken with caution. The definite values may not be fully reliable, but indicate a high adsorption potential, which is also to be expected based on the high log Kow (> 8) and low water solubility (< 1 mg/L). Additionally, log Koc values were calculated for the substance propane-1,2,3-triyl trisheptanoate (CAS No. 620-67-7), which has the same structure as glycerol tristearate, except for the shorter fatty acid chain length (water solubility <0.05 mg/L; log Kow 8.8). Propane-1,2,3-triyl trisheptanoate fits in the domain of the training set of the MCI method, and the resulting Koc value, 5.6, is reliable. The adsorption potential for glycerol tristearate is expected to be higher, due to the length of the fatty acid C-chain. Based on this information, it can be assumed that the adsorption potential of glycerol tristearate to solid particles is high.
