Ready biodegradability tests for several alkyl sulfates are available. Based on the results of screening tests for biodegradation in water it can be concluded that alkyl sulfates with carbon chain length of C8-C18 are readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria (OECD SIDS 2007).
Since no reliable biodegradability tests are available for C12AS Li (CAS 2044-56-6), in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read-across to another structurally related category member was conducted. Read-across data from the other C12 AS homologue: C12AS Na (CAS 151-21-3) were used. Ready biodegradation was tested in the GLP studies according to OECD 301 B (Brunswik-Titze 2005) and 301 D (Börner 1996). Both studies show ready biodegradation of the test substance and pass 10-day window. Due to structural and property similarities with the tested category member it can be concluded that C12AS Li (CAS 2044-56-6) is also readily biodegradable.
