Disulfiram is considered as being a not readily biodegradable (58% biodegradation within 60 d) and potentially adsorptive substance (log Koc of 3.9 – 4.1). Based on data from the analogue substance tetramethylthiuram disulfide (CAS No. 137-26-8), rapid primary biodegradation in water/sediment and soil systems is expected, with half-lives below 10 days. Based on this information, the parent substance is not expected to persist in the environment. The mineralization DT50 in soil was < 120 d, based on the available data. Mineralization behavior in sediment and water compartments, in contrast, leaves some doubts regarding persistence, due to either methodological deficiencies or short duration of the available studies. Furthermore, once released into the water, hydrolysis may contribute to the degradation of tetraethylthiuram disulfide. Disulfiram is not expected to be bioaccumulative based on all available data.
