Description of key information

Hydrolysis and photodegradation are not relevant for the substance Fatty acids, C8-10, zinc salts.

Additional information

According to Annex VIII Column 2 of Regulation (EC) 1907/2006), information on hydrolysis is not required for biodegradable substances.

Regarding phototransformation/photolysis, Fatty acids, C8 -10, zinc salts is produced from natural fatty materials, i.e. fatty acids (octanoic acid (C8) and decanoic acid (C10)), and consists of approximately 84 % natural fatty acids and a maximum of 19.0 % zinc. The zinc moiety is an inorganic element and thus neither a subject to hydrolysis nor to photodegeneration. AOPWin (v.1.92) calculations result in photodegradation half-lifes of 15,372 and 11,485 hours for octanoic and decanoic acid, respectively. However, photodegradation is not expected to be relevant for Fatty acids, C8 -10, zinc salts under typical environmental conditions due to dominant biotic degradation processes.
