Additional information

This study was performed to assess the inhibitory effect of reaction mass of sodium 4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate and disodium 4-hydroxybenzene-1,3-disulfonate and sodium sulfate (EC: 939-154-7) commercial name SELLASOL HH-F on the growth of alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata under static conditions.

Exponentially growing cultures of P. subcapitata were exposed to the test concentration level 0.0 (control), 6.25, 12.5, 25.0, 50.0 and 100.0 mg test item/L. Algal cultures were assessed for the growth by visual cell count at 24 h, 48 h, and 72 h.

The stability test of test item in the test media was performed during the method validation (JRF Study N° 228-2-13-32634), and test item in the test media was stable up to 72 h (>80% of the nominal concentration). The test media was analysed for active ingredient concentration and stability of the test solution at 0 and 72 h during the main study. The active ingredient concentration of test item in the test media was within the acceptable limit (>80% of the nominal concentration).

There was no significant alteration observed in the algal growth (biomass), yield, and growth rate at 6.25, 12.5, 25.0, 50.0, and 100.0 mg test item/L when compared with that of the control group. Test item did not inhibit the growth of alga (P. Subcapitata) up to 100 mg test item/L. The EC10, EC20, EC50, NOEC and LOEC values were greater than 100 mg test item/L.
