For the REACH registration of dilithium tetraborate, a theoretical statement was prepared stating that in accordance with the REACH Regulation, the study on the adsorption coefficient (Koc) on soil and on sewage sludge cannot be performed using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method as described in OECD guideline 121 for an inorganic substance or mineral salt test item such as dilithium tetraborate. This statement is also applicable for Reaction products of boric acid and calcium dihydroxide and lithium hydroxide as the target UVCB substance has a higher precursor molar ratio for lithium hydroxide than for calcium hydroxide, and therefore the precautionary principle should be applied and read across from dilithium tetraborate where relevant to consider the worst case. Read across to the theoretical statement prepared for dilithium tetraborate is proposed to cover the adosprtion/desorption endpoint for the REACH registration of Reaction products of boric acid and calcium dihydroxide and lithium hydroxide.
