Description of key information

The one available study for this endpoint is a prolonged acute toxicity test determining LC50 values over a 14-d period with fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas). The study was not performed under GLP but followed the guideline of US-EPA Ecol. Res. Ser. 660/3-750 (Methods of acute toxicity tests with fish, macroinvertebrates and amphibians). LC50 values and 95 % confidence intervals were determined after 24h, 48h, 72, 96h, 7d and 14d, and were based on measured concentrations. The key value for this study was the 96-h LC50 = 0.14 mg/L. This value was used to derive the PNECs aquatic.

Additional information

The results of this prolonged toxicity test are not appropriate to derive the required key value for long-term toxicity. Although the study is non-GLP and did not follow currently valid and/or internationally excepted test guidelines, it is found reliable. Therefore, the 96-h LC50 value could be applied to derive aquatic PNEC values. The study illustrated the time dependence of LC50 values in fathead minnows exposed in a flow-through system. After 24 hours, an LC50 of 0.21 mg/L was observed. This level gradually decreased over time to 0.17 mg/L after 48 hours, 0.15 mg/L after 72 hours, 0.14 mg/L after 96 hours, 0.08 mg/L after 7 days and 0.054 mg/L after 14 days.
