Results and discussion

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

Minimum ignition energy with inductor* in the discharge circuit: Emin < 1 mJ

The distance between the electrodes was approx. 6 mm. The sample was tested as received. The mean of particle size was M = 8.8 μm. The experimental setup was checked with niacinamide as a reference substance within the last four weeks. This test showed the operability of the apparatus. Due to the design of the apparatus only measurements with E=3 mJ and E=1 mJ are possible in this energy range. The result for Emin is calculated via statistical evaluation of the single experiments (Emin, calculated < 1 mJ)

Commentary: Dusts with a minimum ignition energy Emin < 10 mJ are considered very ignitable. The minimum ignition energy is extremely low! Even a small dust concentration (250 g/m³) is ignited with a low energy spark (E < 1 mJ)
