Additional information

The soil adsorption coefficient (Koc) for DIBC was estimated using OECD Guideline 121: “Estimation of the Adsorption Coefficient (Koc) on Soil and on Sewage Sludge using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)”.  This method compares the retention time of the test material in a defined HPLC assay to the retention times of a series of reference materials with known Kocvalues.  The reference materials included acetanilide, methyl benzoate, aniline, naphthalene, 1,2,3-trichlorobenzene and phenanthrene.  A linear regression line was determined using the log k’ data plotted against their log Kocvalues.  The k’ value is the HPLC capacity factor that is derived from the retention time for a material corrected for the dead volume in the HPLC column.  The Kocof the test material was then determined from its measured HPLC capacity factor using the equation for the fitted regression line.

In the KocHPLC assay using refractive index detection (RID), a single chromatographic peak was observed for DIBC having a retention time of approximately 3.32 minutes.  This retention time correlated to an estimated log Kocvalue of 2.87.
