Description of key information

No reliable studies were retrieved in the plant compartment. Only data from plant toxicity experiments in soil are directly useful for derivation of a PNECsoil. However, also toxicity data for plants grown in nutrient solution can be used in a weight-of-evidence approach because the toxicity thresholds for mercury in the nutrient solutions can be translated to soil concentrations in an equilibrium partitioning approach, by taking into account the Kd value for soils. None of the studies on mercury toxicity to plants grown in contaminated soils was judged reliable (Klimisch 3).
