No half-life for methylal hydrolysis is available. However, studies showed that methylal is stable at pH 2.5 to 9.0 at 37°C for 24h and at pH 4.02 to 8.98 at 25°C for 1 year. Hydrolysis occured at pH < 2.5 at 37°C and at pH <4.02at 25°C. This results showed that methylal hydrolysis is temperature- and pH-dependant.
Half-life of methylal in the atmosphere is estimated by Structure-Activity Relationship to be 2.3 days (with a rate constant for reactions of OH radicals of 6.69 x 10 +5 cm3/molec.s).
