Conclusions:
The toxicity of Hydrocarbons, C12-C16, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, alkenes to Algae, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, was determined. The 72-h EL50, based on growth was > 100 mg/L and the 72-h NOEC, based on growth was 100 mg/L WAF.
Executive summary:

In a reliable 72-h toxicity study, the green algae, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, were exposed to Hydrocarbons, C12-C16, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, alkenes at time-weighted mean nominal concentrations of 0 (control) and 100 mg/L under static conditions following OECD 201 guidelines.  The 72-h EL50and NOEC were 100 mg/L, based on growth rate, respectively.

Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

In a reliable 72 hour toxicity study, the green algae, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, were exposed to Hydrocarbons, C12-C16, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, alkenes at time-weighted mean nominal concentrations of 0 (control) and 100 mg/L under static conditions following OECD 201 guidelines.  The 72 hour EL50and NOEC were 100 mg/L, based on growth rate, respectively. No toxicity was observed at the level of water solubility.
