Description of key information
A partition coefficient study could not be conducted using Distilled tall oil, magnesium salts, as the substance is not sufficiently soluble in water to perform a formal analysis. Therefore data have been read across from the fatty acid and rosin components of the substance.
Log Kow values for the rosin component of the substance range from 0.74 to >6. Calculated log Kow values for the fatty acid component of the substance range from 6.96 to 7.73. Therefore the partition coefficient of Distilled tall oil, magnesium salts is believed to be in the range 0.74 to 7.73.

GLP compliant studies based on OECD Guideline 117 were performed for Resin acids and rosin acids calcium salts, Resin acids and rosin acids magnesium salts, Resin acids, rosin acids calcium zinc salts, hydrogenated rosin (Chilworth Technology 2010), Rosin, Hydrogenated rosin, Resin acids and rosin acids sodium salts, Resin acids and rosin acids potassium salts (Inveresk Research 2003), and Rosin, oligomers (Harlan Laboratories, 2012). These results are read across to Distilled tall oil, magnesium salts to provide information on the rosin component of the substance. The log Kow results range from 0.74 to >6. Additionally, calculated log Kow values are available for three fatty acids and these can be read across to Distilled tall oil, magnesium salts to provide information on the fatty acid component of the substance. The log Kow results range from 6.96 to 7.73. Based on read across from the rosin and fatty acid components of the substance the partition coefficient of Distilled tall oil, magnesium salts is believed to be in the range 0.74 to 7.73.
