Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
surface tension
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
15 January 2018 to 23 January 2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 115 (Surface Tension of Aqueous Solutions)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.5 (Surface Tension)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
ring method
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Source and lot/batch No.of test material: Sponsor and G316507
Key result
Surface tension:
68 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: mean value of runs 3 and 4

Measured value of the surface tension of water : 70.9 mN.m-1

EC standard reading for surface tension of water : 72.75 mN.m-1

The age of the solution and the corresponding surface tension for both runs (after correction for

water calibration) is detailed in Table 7:1.

Comment

Two initial test runs were conducted over 305 and 295 minutes respectively. However, the results were not stable or consistent therefore two additional tests were performed. Run 1 showed a tendency for the surface tension to decrease over time whilst the surface tension showed a slight tendency to increase but readings did not stabilise.

Conclusions:
Surface tension value was determined to be 68 mN/m.
