Description of key information

An experimental ready biodegradability study according to the OECD 301F guideline is available for 2,2-bis(formyloxymethyl)propane-1,3-diyl diformate and formic acid, which showed approximately 66% degradation within the 10-day window, thereby demonstrating ready biodegradability.

Studies for environmental fate are also available for the read-across substances formic acid, propylidynetrimethanol (trimethylolpropane, TMP) and pentaerythritol. These studies indicate that reaction mass of 2,2-bis(formyloxymethyl)propane-1,3-diyl diformate and formic acid is likely to be hydrolytically stable and readily biodegradable. No further investigation of adsorption/desorption is considered necessary due to the low experimentally derived log Kow (-0.6) of the substance.
