Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Biodegradability is low, 1% degradation BOD ( Ministry of Health LW & MoE) Japan – Nite website.
Bioaccumulation Potential
 (l/kg) BCF= < 2.8 – not likely – Japan (chemicals Inspection and Testing Inst ) test organism Cyprinus carpio (lipid content 4.2 %) – 6 week exposure at 0.05mg/L

ODM has shown no toxic effects by oral routes and is unlikely to be inhaled. It is a highly water insoluble material therefore persistence and bioaccumulation are possible issues. However, there is a biioaccumulation study on the Japanese NITE site entitled "Bioaccumulation Test of a Chemical Substance in Fish or Shellfish" by the Ministry of the Environment which lists the BCF as < 2.8 L/kg. The test used 0.05 mg/L of the material and was tested over a 6 week period (see attachment).

If this substance persists it is unlikely to bioaccumulate, conclusion not PBT and not a vPvB.

Likely routes of exposure:

Only through dermal routes but as it is a mild irritant there should be no long-term or toxic effects.
