Findings

Pre-Test for Safety

A bubble chain was observed at 236 °C. The bubble chain broke at 198 °C. After cooling down, the test item became slightly more yellow. No signs of polymerisation were visible.

The value in italic was not used for evaluation as the test was affected by draught of the closed fume hood.

Evaluation and Result

The flash point is given as the mean value of the first and third determination. The measured flash point is therefore 84.5°C (corresponding to 357.7 K).

Discussion

The second determination was not considered valid as the deviation was more than 2°C due to draught caused by the fume hood closing automatically during the experiment. The experiment was then repeated again with the fume hood opened to avoid draught. No difference between the values of the first and third experiment was observed. For this reason, these two determinations were considered valid.

No observations were made which might cause doubts on the validity of the study outcome.

Executive summary:

The flash point of the test substance was determined under GLP according to EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point), using a non-equilibrium closed cup method (ISO2719 -Part A).

First, a safety test was performed: A bubble chain was observed at 236 °C. The bubble chain broke at 198 °C. After cooling down, the test item became slightly more yellow. No signs of polymerisation were visible.

Then, a pre-test and a main study with three experiments were performed.The flashpoint value is the mean value of two independent valid determinations.

 The flash point of the test item has been determined to be 84.5°C (357.7K).

The flash point of test substance is above the classification thresholds of 60°C of the Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP criteria) and lower than 93°C, the threshold of the UN Globally Harmonised System (GHS).

Therefore the test substance is NOT classified as a flammable liquid according to CLP criteria but is classified as a Flammable Liquid Category 4 according to UN Globally Harmonised System (GHS).
