Additional information

The flash point of the test material was determined in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.9 under GLP conditions using a closed cup flash point tester. All methodology and results were reported in full. The study was therefore assigned a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the principles for assessing data quality as described by Klimisch et al. (1997).

In the definitive test an aliquot of the test material was added into the sample cup of the flash point tester; the sample was heated and left to equilibrate at the set temperature. The test flame was introduced into the sample cup for approximately 2 ½ seconds and observations were made for ignition of the vapour. If no ignition occurred, the temperature was increased by 5 °C and the test flame re-introduced. This was repeated until the lowest reproducible temperature at which a flash occurred, using a fresh sample, was determined. The test flame was then re-introduced to a fresh sample at 2 °C lower in duplicate to demonstrate no flash would occur.

Under the conditions of the study the flash point of the test material was determined to be 128 ± 2 °C at 101 kPa.
