The determinations were performed at 20.0 ±and at this temperature the tabulate value for water is 72.75 mN/m.

After zero point adjustment, the surface tension of the distilled water (sg) was determined to be 71.53 mN/m; therefore the calibration factor was calculated to be f (water) = 1.0170.

According to the method’s indications, the test item was tested at 1 g/L concentration inwater.

The test item solutions at the above described concentration was maintained at 20 ±in a thermostatic liquid bath and then tested.

Six measurements were performed for each solution at 20.0°C. Data are reported in Tables 1, 2 and 3.

Note.Y1 and Y2 are the surface tension values respectively lower and higher of the experimental datum obtained after first correction with water calibration. X1 and X2 are the correspondent values found in the table reported in the A.5 method.

Using these values a linear interpolation was calculated through the following formula:

Y = m X + q

where:

m= Slope of the linear interpolation (from the table)

q= Interception value (mN/m) of the linear interpolation (from the table)

Conclusions:
From the obtained experimental data according to the A.5 method in Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008 and OECD Guideline No. 115, it can be concluded that the surface tension at 20°C (± 0.5°C) for the Delmopinolo HCl Technical sample at 1 g/L concentration in water is 30.6 mN/m.

According to the interpretation of the results suggested in the A.5 method, the Delmopinolo HCl Technical sample should be regarded as a surface-active material.
Executive summary:

Delmopinolo HCl Technical sample should be regarded as a surface-active material.
