Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

As usual for an acid halide, bromoacetyl bromide hydrolyzes rapidly in water, forming bromoacetic acid and hydrobromic acid. Therfore, aquatic toxicity data for bromoacetic acid sufficiently provides information for the toxicity of bromoacetyl bromide as well. For bromoacetic acid a QSAR model is used to predict algae toxicity.

Although the model has significant limitations due to the low number of compounds included, the model performs well for the structural class of haloacids. Other haloacids like Chloroacetic acid or Fluoroacetic acid have predicted EC50 values below 1 mg/l which fit well to the experimental EC50 values supporting that the QSAR works well for haloacids (experimental data for Chloroacetic acid or Bromoacetic acid => see the respective Reach dossiers).
