There were no mortalities and all animals gained weight during the study.
Dermal irritation occurred at the site of application of test substance in every animal.
On the day of treatment loose stool was observed in all animals but not thereafter.
No gross abnormalities were observed at necropsy.

Conclusions:
The dermal LD50 for straight run kerosine is > 2000 mg/kg in male and female rabbits, based on lack of systemic toxicity at 2000 mg/kg.
Executive summary:

In an acute dermal toxicity study, groups of young adult New Zealand white rabbits (5/sex) were dermally exposed to straight-run kerosine for 24 hours to 10% of the total body surface area, at a limit dose of 2000 mg/kg bw. Animals were then observed for 14 days.

 

There was no mortality of the test animals. There was no effect of treatment on body weight. Signs of dermal irritation were present throughout the study, and erythema and dry skin were noted as abnormalities for eight animals during necropsy. Abnormal stools were noted on the first day of observation. No treatment-related systemic abnormalities were exhibited during the observation period. The dermal LD50 was determined to be > 2000 mg/kg in males and females.
