Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

PNEC freshwater sediment:

K_(susp-water) = 346 m3/m3

RHO_(susp) = 1150 kg/m3

Conversion factor (wwt -> dwt): 4.6

PNEC_freshwater sediment = (K_(susp-water)/ RHO_(susp))*PNEC_fresh water * 1000

= (346/1150)* 1.0 *1000

= 300.8 mg/kg wwt

= 1384.0 mg/kg dwt

PNEC marine water sediment:

K_(susp-water) = 346 m3/m3

RHO_(susp) = 1150

Conversion factor (wwt -> dwt): 4.6

PNEC_marine water sediment = (K_(susp-water)/ RHO_(susp))*PNEC_marine water* 1000

= (346/1150)* 1.0 * 1000

= 300.8 mg/kg wwt

= 1384.0 mg/kg dwt

PNEC soil:

K_(soil-water) = 414 m3/m3

RHO_(soil) = 1700 kg/m3

Conversion factor (wwt -> dwt): 1.13

PNEC_soil = (K_(soil-water)/ RHO_(soil))*PNEC_fresh water * 1000

= (414/1700)* 1.0 * 1000

= 243.5 mg/kg wwt

= 275.2 mg/kg dwt

Conclusion on classification

According to the aquatic toxicity data no hazard was detected for all three trophic levels as well as for microorganisms. But as Urea 4 is highly insoluble in water, has a log Pow greater or equal than 6 and is not readily biodegradable it needs to be classified as long term (chronic) aquatic toxicity Cat. 4 (H413: May cause long lasting harmful effects to aquatic life), but not for short term (acute) aquatic toxicity according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, as amended for the eighteenth time in Regulation (EU) 2022/692.
