Additional information

The tested representative sample was characterized (physico-chemical and mineralogical properties) in view of the upcoming REACH registrations of copper intermediates and copper slags by the Copper Consortium.

The studied representative speiss sample contains 55.9% copper, 10.2% antimony, 7.35% arsenic, 7% nickel, 0.12% lead and 2.4% sulphur. The studied speiss sample consists mainly of metallic copper (32.4%), covellite, CuS, (26.2%), iron arsenic -alloy, FeAs (17.5%), nickel antimony –alloy, NiSb, (14.9%) with accessory copper arsenides and copper- tin alloys.

Metallic copper carries 51.3% of the speiss total copper content, and covellite carries (34%). The rest is carried by copper and iron arsenides and copper- tin alloys. The main carrier of arsenic is iron- arsenic –alloy (72%), other carries being metallic copper and copper arsenide. The lead in the studied sample occurs as metallic.

None of these constituents is known to show explosive properties
