Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The adsorption/desorption behaviour ofdecanoic acid, mixed esters with heptanoic acid, octanoic acid, pentaerythritol and valeric acid(CAS 71010-76-9) was investigated in a GLP study according to OECD 121 by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (Sydney, 2008). A solution of the test substance was chromatographed in duplicate and bracketed by samples of the reference mixture. The test substance was found to have log Koc values ranging from 4.3 – 7. In addition, using KOCWIN v2.00, log Koc values of 6.25 - 11.46 were calculated, based on molecular connectivity index (MCI) (Hopp, 2011). The model has no universally accepted definition of model domain, and the longer fatty acid chain components of the test substance (≥ C7 FA) are outside the Kow range of the training set, thus, the results should be taken with caution. The definite values may not be fully reliable, but confirmed the high adsorption potential determined in the experimental study. The potential for adsorption is also to be expected based on the high Kow (6.7 – 16.6). Based on this information, the adsorption potential of the substance is assumed to be high.
