Biodegradation in water: screening tests

Description of key information

The test item was tested for ready biodegradability in the CO2 evolution test according to OECD 301 B (1992). Based on the rate of biodegradation of <10 % CO2/ThCO2 at the end of exposure the test substance is considered to be not readily biodegradable.

The ready biodegradability of the test item was tested in the CO2 Evolution Test with non-adapted inoculum (activated sludge from a municipal sewage plant) over a period of 28 days according to OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals 301 B (1992) and to the Commission Regulation 2008/440/EC, C.4-C. The test item concentration was 20 mg/L TOC, equivalent to approximately 27 mg/L test substance.

The required pass level for ready biodegradability within a ten days window was not reached and the degree of biodegradation after an exposure period of 28 days was <10% CO2/ThCO2. Therefore the test substance is considered as not readily biodegradable under the conditions of this test.
